Selenium – Se 50ml

10.00

Selenium is fundamental to human health.

It is widely recognized that dietary selenium is important for a healthy immune response.

There is also evidence that selenium has a protective effect against certain forms of cancer.

The biologically active form of selenium is selenocysteine.

Selenocysteine is incorporated into selenoproteins, which protect against oxidative damage, are involved in the production of triiodothyronine from thyroxine, and thioredoxin reductases (involved in maintaining intracellular redox).

Severe selenium deficiency can increase hypothyroid stress caused by iodine deficiency.

Selenium is present in foods, particularly in fish (0.32 mg/kg), offal (0.42 mg/kg), Brazil nuts (0.25 mg/kg), eggs (0.16 mg/kg) and cereals, (0.02 mg/kg) and is present in some dietary supplements in doses of up to 0.3 mg per daily dose.

Selenium compounds are readily absorbed from the small intestine.
